Cemtery Records and Rubbings

My uncharted mind has a tendency to drift, so though this blog is hopefully helpful to one It may not always go from A to Z in order of researching Genealogy but one thing I can tell you is all will hopefully give you knew idea's on doing your hunt.
One of my absolute favorite sites is findagrave.com. Why because of the volunteer's. You search for the cemetery that your loved one is in. If IF they have a memorial you'll find it if not you can start one either for the individual or the cemetery it's self if it does not have a page. A memorial consists of Name (maiden and married) Birth and Death dates and places if known. Many have included obituary to it.
0ne thing I find great is where you find family trees online most don't give clues of where the actual graves are usually just the Cemetery name. Here you can not only upload a photo of the headstone,Cemetery or person You can also put Plot information to help find it or better yet GPS Location so one can right to it.
I mentioned volunteers. Yes findagrave is done up by you, me and volunteers. If a memorial does not have a photo of the headstone you can put in a request and a volunteer who lives nearby might just take some time off in their day and go get it, They have been absolutely fantastic, they can also help in other ways. Ex. I found out one relative was buried in this one cemetery. I put a request and by this one volunteer found he wasn't at least by the Cemetery records.
Over all Cemetery records are an excellent source. One other form of documenting is getting a rubbing of the headstone. What's rubbing? Simple by getting a piece of paper either normal drawing paper or sketching paper and you place it on the headstone and with a pencil or such rub the paper and the parts of the stone that touch will showup so you have a duplicate of the headstone. BUT before you do this ask at the office some cemeteries do not allow rubbing.
